We were looking for a private villa but close to the centre of the port, and this was pretty much the only option, so we booked it despite there being no previous reviews that we could find.
Starting with the positives - this is a fantastic location - a couple of hundred yards to the beach. Bars, shops and restaurants literally around the corner, and 5 minutes walk to the marina. The property is a good size for 4 people, the walled terrace is lovely, very private and catches the sun in the afternoon, and despite being so close to the sea front it's really peaceful during the day.
But unfortunately there are some negatives. Firstly, having been quoted the price and completed payment, we were then told that we had to make an extra payment direct to the managers for a local tourist tax. The tax is legitimate, but per homeaway's rules this should have been notified to us at the beginning.
The beds were very uncomfortable. We like a firm mattress, but these were the hardest we have ever slept on, and were also covered with noisy, sweaty plastic mattress covers (which we removed as they were unbearable).
However, the biggest downside is that the property has an alleyway down the side which provides access to the rear of a restaurant, and after the restaurant closes at night they drag wheelie bins down this alleyway to the road. At around 5.00 a.m., a lorry comes and empties the bins, then they get dragged back. Since this is a ground floor property this happens right past the bedroom windows, and the whole process is very noisy.
What made this problem much worse was that the air conditioning didn't work when we arrived, meaning we had to leave the windows open at night to keep the bedroom cool. We reported the air conditioning problem on the Monday but it took until Thursday to fix it, by which time we were suffering sleep deprivation which spoilt the holiday for us.
If you do book this for the location, check the air con as soon as you arrive, and maybe take ear plugs to use at night.
