La Ruche is a truly unique historical chalet nestled on the side of the valley with views to the Aravis mountain range. The restoration is superb, sympathetic and full of character with a very homely feeling.
This was our fifth visit to Le Grand Bornand and our best yet.
The region has so much to offer for visitors of all ages. We love the fun of the summer ice rink, the excitement of the summer luge, a great 9 hole golf course, the beauty of the mountain passes and valleys.. the list goes on! We are keen cyclists and the lake of Annecy (about 40 minutes drive from the chalet) offers amazing water sports in one of Europes cleanest lakes. If that is not enough, the walking and treking is almost limitless from your doorstep, and there is a fabulous go kart track about 15 minutes from the chalet towards Thones. Food wise, Le Grand Bornand offers a variety of local and international cuisine (our personal favourite is a pizza on the terrace of La Boheme at the top of the town square, and if you are a real foodie, there are a number of Michelin Star accredited restaurants within a 20 minute drive.
And of course, in the winter months Le Grand Bornand offers great downhill skiing for the family, and is one of Europe’s big centres for cross country skiing.
Could not recommend more highly for a family or group who enjoy the great outdoors and a cosy retreat back at La Ruche. Finally, Laurent was a great host, he responded almost immediately and made some great recommendations.
